How to watch NYCFC’s huge game with first-place Nashville SC, time, more

A 7-8-7 record in September is likely not what New York City FC expected in the 2026 Major League Soccer season. Alas, injuries and self-inflicted wounds have put a damper on the campaign. It does not help that the Pigeons had a seven-game winless streak earlier in the season, and currently, the team is in the middle of a five-game winless streak.

It does not help that NYCFC must now face first-place Nashville SC. The Music City team is not only in first place in the Eastern Conference but is currently running away with the Supporters’ Shield. They are clearly the team to beat this year, as they have only lost twice. In any other year, a draw would have been acceptable. However, the Boys in Blue cannot afford anything less than a win. Still, the likelihood of winning based on where the teams are and how they have been playing is very slim.

Truthfully, it will be a shock if the winless streak does not continue. That is not to say, though, that NYCFC cannot win. After all, anything can happen in the beautiful game. And, in the last meeting, the Bronx side was not terrible. The attack was not their best, but they gave their opponents a decent fight.

Moreover, it is not like the Pigeons have not played well during this streak. Look at what happened in the New England Revolution draw. NYCFC struggled during the first 40 minutes, but then played well to earn a point. But in other matches, like the loss to the Philadelphia Union, closing out games has been problematic. If, by chance, the team takes the lead over Nashville, then they cannot make mistakes. They have to hold on until the final whistle.

The transfer window has officially closed, and Nicolás Fernández Mercau is thankfully still here. Despite reports and rumors, the likely MVP of NYCFC’s 2026 season did not leave. Hopefully, he can lead the team as they chase a better position in the Eastern Conference table.
