It might be time to push the panic button, or at least the time to do so is getting close.  Nevertheless, New York City FC will have an opportunity to put a stop to the winless streak in Major League Soccer.  They are 0-3-1 in the last four matches, and three of these fixtures were at home.  This is not a good look after the 3-0-1 start, so it is important that the Boys in Blue come away with a midweek win against FC Cincinnati.

Last season, NYCFC won both the home match and away fixture, winning 1-0 each time.  It was impressive since the Orange and Blue finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference.  One win against the Queens side would have seen them lift the Supporters’ Shield, so in a way, the Pigeons kept that from happening.  Plus, these matches had some of the best defensive performances of the year, especially in Cincinnati.

This time, both sides have been struggling, and the visitors have a 2-4-2 record.  Losing four times already is a little shocking, so hopefully, NYCFC will have the belief that they can win.  After all, this is another home game, and the Boys in Blue do not want to drop any more points at Yankee Stadium or Citi Field.

At the same time, this is the second week in a row that NYCFC is playing a midweek fixture. So, rotation is needed.  While the Ohio side is not at their best, that does not mean that things can change in a heartbeat.  The same goes for the Boys in Blue.  Hence, Pascal Jansen should still put out a strong side, but he should make a few changes for this game and the one over the weekend.

Final notes

As mentioned, Jansen will need to rotate some players since this is another midweek game.  He should consider some changes on the left side, like Nico Cavallo for Kevin O’Toole and Talles Magno for Hannes Wolf.  Kai Trewin should return to the backline with Thiago Martins, and maybe Jonathan Shore can start for Aiden O’Neill.  NYCFC would still have a strong Starting XI with these changes.
