Things are looking up for NJ/NY Gotham FC. After a 1-2-2 start, the Bats have won their last three games, boosting them into fourth place in the NWSL standings. This is exactly where a squad with so much talent should be, and ideally, they will be fighting for the NWSL Shield as the season goes on. But first, they have to continue winning games, and they could easily earn three more points in the next meeting with Boston Legacy FC.
The two teams met during the season opener, and Gotham FC secured the 1-0 win away from home. It was not an easy task, and Boston made things difficult. Nevertheless, the NJ/NY side upset the new team’s home opener party and got the first win out of the way. And now, the team is arguably better, and on paper, should beat the Legacy.
Many NWSL fans are aware that Boston is in last place and has struggled to get the results to make them a contender. Of course, more often than not, expansion sides tend to struggle. Here and there, some teams will be competitive in their first year and even make or almost make the postseason. But for Boston, that is easily becoming far out of reach.Â
Still, Gotham cannot be lackadaisical in their play. Their opponents won their first match last weekend, beating Denver Summit FC, and might feel inspired. So, the task for the Bats should be to remind the Legacy that they are still new and comfortably defeat them.

Final notes
Saturday’s match will be Club and Country Night, in which Gotham FC will honor the club and the national teams of the players. There will be the usual Fan Fest, but the USWNT’s head coach, Emma Hayes, will also be in attendance. She will light the torch before the fixture. In addition, Sue Bird and Ali Krieger will be there, participating in a live event before kickoff, highlighting the impact of women in sports.Â
Also, Mayor Mamdani of New York City is supposed to be in attendance after partnering with the club to sell some tickets at just $5. Whether he will be there is up in the air due to any issues in the city, but Gotham FC fans can keep an eye out for the avid soccer fan.
