Gotham FC vs Utah Royals FC: How to watch, time, and more of NWSL Game 26

The end is near for NJ/NY Gotham FC.  The Bats will play their final game of the NWSL regular season.  Nobody thought the 26th match would show up so quickly, but the season has flown by.  The playoffs are near, including the team’s first home playoff game in club history.  The fight to retain last year’s Championship title will be in full swing, but first, Gotham must play against Utah Royals FC on the road.

Utah is in the first season back since 2020 and in some ways like a new team.  It surely feels like an inaugural season since the side sits in tenth place and will not play in the playoffs.  Still, this will be a challenging battle since the Royals are playing their final home fixture of the year in front of their fans.  They will want to win and break up Gotham FC’s seven-game unbeaten streak in the NWSL.  They will also want revenge after the NJ/NY side won the opposite fixture.

On the other hand, the Bats will not want to end the streak.  They will also want to rebound after the loss in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup finals.  Juan Carlos Amorós was without many players due to injury and international duty.  However, the international players will be back on Friday.  Ideally, there will be fewer injured players too.

There was some concern though about the players on the USWNT.  They had a game on Wednesday, but thankfully head coach Emma Hayes did not play the ladies due to the Friday night match.  The only exception was Rose Lavelle, who played the first half plus 90 seconds of the second since she was honored for her 100 caps with the national team.  As such, everyone else should be available for Gotham FC’s last game of the 2024 regular season.

Final Notes

Since Lavelle played for the USWNT on Wednesday, Gotham FC supporters should expect her to come off the bench.  It would be shocking if she were to start.
