Listen, there is no easy way to say this: August has not been fun for NJ/NY Gotham FC.  Sure, the team won their first CONCACAF W Champions Cup match, but in the NWSL, it has been rough.  Goals have been hard to come by, and they have three draws and a loss from their last four games.  This includes the three home games, with one of those ending in a shocking loss against the Houston Dash.

So, can Gotham FC figure out a way to reverse their recent misfortunes?  It will not be easy, for the Bats will now head on the road to face the Orlando Pride.  Last year’s NWSL Champions currently sits in 4th place in the NWSL standings. The team has an 8-5-4 record, which highlights that they are not the same dominant side from 2024.  They have already lost three more matches compared to the previous campaign.

However, with Gotham’s recent struggles, can they break down Orlando and find a way to win on the road?  It is not impossible.  Earlier this season, they beat the second-place Washington Spirit away from home, and then recently held them to a draw at home.  Arguably, the majority of their best games have occurred on the road.  But again, their recent inability to score has been problematic.

That is not to say that the NJ/NY side has been poor.  Last week, they had a great performance in the Utah Royals FC draw.  But despite the offensive threat, the ladies did not score.  Therefore, the answer to whether Gotham FC can beat the Pride is easy on paper.  Yes, they can.  But will they actually score?  That is the question everyone is asking.

Final Notes

Sadly for Orlando, Barbra Banda is on the season-ending injury list.  However, the forward likes to score against the Bats, so from the team's perspective, it is a good thing they will not have to face her.  But the Gotham FC defense cannot break apart at any moment, for the Pride can easily strike with any of their players.
