NJ/NY Gotham FC will welcome Angel City FC to New Jersey this weekend for a close NWSL battle. The two teams are in eighth and ninth place, respectively, and only one point separates them in the standings. Therefore, the Bats must find the magic they had from their home matches last season and get the win at Sports Illustrated Stadium. In addition, they must find that goal-scoring form that they had in the opposite fixture, when they beat the California team 4-0.
There is some positivity heading into the game, for Gotham FC has won their last three in all competitions. Of course, the big win against the Orlando Pride is what will ideally spark a win against Angel City. The NJ/NY side not only scored two goals to earn them the win, but they also played well throughout the fixture. The match had to be a confidence booster.
At the same time, the struggles with scoring goals have not disappeared. While they won the last CONCACAF W Champions Cup against Alianza Women FC, they only scored twice. In this match, it was clear that the ladies were struggling to be clinical in front of goal. When they were on target, they scored. With that in mind, and how they were playing, the Bats should have had at least four or more on the night.
So, if they want to beat Angel City, then Gotham FC must score. Plus, it is New Fan Night, where the team will be celebrating the newer fans of the club. Hence, they will want to win to make the evening extra special for those who are at the stadium.
