Gotham FC should look into the opportunity to play in a baseball stadium in 2026

Gotham FC has one game where they do not have a venue yet. This raises the opportunity for the club to investigate the local ballparks.

Last week, NJ/NY Gotham FC and the rest of the NWSL released the regular-season schedules. Fans learned when the games are, when the Bats will play at home, and which games to mark on the calendar. As such, this allows supporters to make plans around the matches, and maybe plan a few road trips, too.

However, there is one unknown regarding the NWSL schedule. Gotham FC's home game against the Washington Spirit on July 15 does not have a stadium. Sports Illustrated Stadium is not available. The New York Red Bulls are not playing that day, but the World Cup will still be going on. It might be possible that the winner of the first semifinal, which will occur the day before, will be in New Jersey by then to prepare for the finals.

Regardless of the reason, Gotham FC needs a stadium to play in, and clearly, their usual home is not available. But there might be a silver lining and a unique opportunity for the Bats. This could be a game that the team plays in a baseball stadium.

Gotham FC should consider Citi Field

Now, some might be against this based on the constant criticism New York City FC has received throughout the years. Of course, the Major League Soccer team will be moving into their own soccer stadium next year. But right now, the Pigeons play at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, with the majority taking place in the Bronx.

For Gotham, NYCFC does not play at all that week, and the New York Yankees and New York Mets do not play on July 15 either. In other words, two baseball stadiums are available, and the NJ/NY side could take this opportunity to see whether they could play their game against the Spirit at either ballpark.

Truthfully, playing at Yankee Stadium would be a little more challenging since the Yankees will be back that weekend for a series against the LA Dodgers two days later. It is unknown whether the grounds crew can switch over the field in that timespan.

Over in Queens, the Mets will not be at Citi Field, and no events are scheduled at the moment. Therefore, Gotham could probably inquire about playing there for the Wednesday match. This is something they should do, for it would be unique and interesting for both clubs and the fans.

In fact, many who live in the city, Connecticut, and Long Island would have a chance to see the Bats closer to home. The match might be during the week, but at least it is in the summer. Hence, if the club announces the venue early on, then plans can be made for a summer night out. Additionally, this would allow the team to advertise and maybe convince a few people who would not normally attend a Gotham FC game to go.

Moreover, the team can make this a baseball-themed night. Maybe they can work out something where fans can get some typical ballpark food for a lower price. Or, they can sell baseball jerseys with the NJ/NY logo. If the Mets allowed the team to set up a Fan Fest, then it could be themed to baseball.

This could be a homerun opportunity for Gotham FC. But will they even consider Citi Field? Would the NWSL allow it? These are all questions that must be asked.
