Over the last few days, there have been a few moves for NJ/NY Gotham FC. On Thursday, the Bats announced the loan move for Stella Nyamekye to Fort Lauderdale FC. Then, on Monday, the team announced the signing of Princess Ademiluyi from West Ham United F.C. Women.
The roster moves will likely be the last ones with the closing of the summer transfer window. Plus, Gotham needs to put the entire focus on their production on the pitch in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup and the NWSL. Of course, the roster freeze will not occur until October, so anything can happen.
Gotham FC's loan for Stella Nyamekye
It was not surprising that Gotham FC loaned Nyamekye out to another team. She has potential, but was barely getting playing time based on the depth chart of the roster. By moving to Fort Lauderdale, she will ideally earn more minutes and continue her development.
Plus, the NJ/NY side was not going to let her go elsewhere permanently; the team believes in her. Nyamekye is still young and could eventually become a starter down the road. To be honest, she was one of the players that was thought that she could leave the team this summer, but on a loan deal.
Speaking about the deal, the loan will last until the end of 2025, but could be extended through May. However, Gotham can bring her back in January and February for the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Princess Ademiluyi is the newest Gotham FC player
Gotham FC signed Ademiluyi, and it was a little surprising to see this announcement since it was after the transfer window. Although the team might have waited a few days to announce the move, she had to be signed during the summer window.
In addition, Ademiluyi is a forward, which makes the move even more interesting. Gotham has multiple forwards and recently brought back Katie Stengel. The team needed another defender, but instead they brought in another attacker.
As such, is this a sign of things to come? Are there players that the team already knows will be leaving in the offseason, like Midge Purce or Ella Stevens? They locked down some of the free agents, but those two are still available.
Nevertheless, Ademiluyi is a talented player who has the potential to become a star. Whether she will play often for the rest of the season is yet to be seen.
