First place is a wonderful thing. NJ/NY Gotham FC knows this well, for the team continues to stay at the top of the table in the NWSL standings. They continue to play well, despite not scoring multiple goals. But as it is said, defense wins games. Oh, and they are still scoring goals to win. Whether it is a 1-0 win that they had for three games in a row or a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Current, the Bats know how to get the job done.
Meanwhile, there is a lot to discuss based on things around the club and off the pitch. Check out the next Gotham FC news roundup.
Gotham FC’s new player
On Thursday, Gotham FC announced that the club has signed midfielder Tess Boade. She is signed through the rest of the season. She likely joins the team as a depth option, since it is not like the Bats could use another defender, right?
Regardless, this was an interesting move by the NJ/NY side. Boade joins as a free agent, as she and Bay FC recently agreed to terminate her contract. As such, she is moving from a 15th-place team to the best in the NWSL. But Gotham is full of midfielders, and there is nobody she will likely knock out of the starting lineup. Plus, the team already has incredible options off the bench.
This might be one of those moves where fans look back and question why the club brought her in. Still, perhaps the player will show everyone she is worthy of being a Bat.
Tierna Davidson was honored
Before the match against the Current, Tierna Davidson was honored as Gotham FC’s Lauren Holiday Impact Award nominee. Her work with Girls Leadership to create the Power Lab is something that can help girls in sports. ACL injuries are too common, and the Power Lab will hopefully lead to fewer ACL tears.
Gotham FC's Keep Her in the Game update
It has been about two years since Gotham FC announced the Keep Her in the Game initiative. The club provided an update on their important work.
In two years, the Bats have reached 4,347 girls and 221 coaches. The workshops have helped everyone, including coaches, players, and parents and guardians. The biggest piece of evidence comes from the girls surveyed: 100% saw themselves playing soccer in the next year.
Plus, the club plans to expand the Keep Her in the Game initiative to include not only New Jersey and New York but Connecticut and Pennsylvania, too. This is fantastic to see, and Gotham FC should be proud of what they are doing.
Ali Krieger is a Hall of Fame nominee!
Former Gotham FC player and NWSL champion, Ali Krieger, is one of the finalists for the 2027 National Soccer Hall of Fame class. She is nominated in her first year of eligibility. There is no guarantee that she will be elected this time around, but this is a wonderful accomplishment.
