The chase to the end of the season will continue for NJ/NY Gotham FC, with their next game being a road match against Bay FC. Things appear to be looking brighter for the team since they are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions and have won their last five. As such, it is quite possible that they could make a playoff run, as long as the recent form does not dissipate.
In the meantime, there is some player news to cover. Here is another Gotham FC news roundup.
Khyah Harper's extension with Gotham FC
On Friday, Gotham FC announced that they signed Khyah Harper to a contract extension through 2026. The rookie, whose contract was up at the end of this year, will get an opportunity to continue her development with the club.
The former University of Minnesota soccer star has scored two goals in all competitions, and only recently has been making more appearances for the club. By signing her for another year, Gotham can see whether she can turn into a more consistent NWSL player. Plus, it shows they felt the one-year contract that she initially signed was not enough. This highlights the belief that Harper is worthy of another season.
Taryn Torres is out for the season and beyond
Midfielder Taryn Torres was having a good year. She has already made the most regular-season appearances in her career, with 15, and signed a contract extension with Gotham back in June.
Unfortunately, Torres' season has come to an end, and she will likely miss the majority of the 2026 season. On Friday, the club revealed that she tore her left ACL during training last weekend. Subsequently, she has been placed on the season-ending injury list.
This is awful news for Torres. She missed the 2023 season with an ACL tear, and took time to get back to full fitness in 2024. The fact that this has happened again reminds everyone that the beautiful game can sometimes be cruel. She might not be an everyday starter, but the midfielder is one of the hardest-working players at Gotham. When called upon, she is consistent with her performances. The team will certainly miss her reliability and will need to find someone similar to her for 2026.
It would be great, though, for the tear not to be as bad as the last one. Some players have returned quickly, but of course, the recovery could last over a year. Hopefully, Torres will be one of the cases where she returns less than a year and can play some games for Gotham FC next year.
