Breaking down the August 2026 schedule for Gotham FC: A tough month of games

NJ/NY Gotham FC is about halfway through the summer games and has been playing very well over the last month. After losing to San Diego Wave FC on July 4, the team has won four games and ended one match in a draw. Plus, they have already seen a few moves in the summer transfer window, with both incoming and outgoing players. As such, the club has been very busy, and that will not end in August.

The Bats will play five games during the month, with two on the road and three at home. Then, four of the five opponents are in a playoff position, and the NJ/NY side saw three of the five already after the break in June. In addition, all of the home games are against tough opponents. Now, after officially losing Emily Sonnett due to a ruptured patellar tendon, the defense might be slightly impacted. Still, the ladies have a strong backline no matter who is healthy, and this was seen earlier in the year.

It will be a challenging month, but the Bats have already proven that they can compete with the best of the best. Therefore, here is a look at Gotham FC's August 2026 schedule.

Saturday, August 1: Gotham FC at Houston Dash

Gotham FC will start August with the final game of their three-game road trip. They will play against the Houston Dash, who has always been a tough opponent regardless of where they are in the NWSL table. In this case, the Texas side is in twelfth place compared to the NJ/NY side's second-place spot. So, on paper, and when looking at the other teams later this month, this is technically the one match that should end with all three points. But that is never a guarantee, and again, the Dash can be a tough opponent.

Friday, August 7: Gotham FC vs San Diego Wave FC

Playing San Diego is never easy, and too often, Gotham found themselves on the poor end of the results. But since this is the first game back at Sports Illustrated Stadium since May, as the July home games were played elsewhere, the Bats will really want to win. But for some reason, the Wave has the team's number. The NJ/NY side is 2-7-1 against them. Based on history, this will likely be the most challenging game in August.

Friday, August 14: Gotham FC vs Kansas City Current

So far this season, Gotham FC lost to the Kansas City Current in the away fixture and then beat them in the NWSL Challenge Cup. As such, it would be great to see the home team win at home in front of the fans. Plus, this match will be Broadway Night, in which the club will celebrate Broadway and all aspects of theatre. Fireworks are also scheduled, but like anything, that will be dependent on the weather. Between that and the fact that the Current is one of the top sides in the NWSL, this could be the game that fans circle on their calendar to attend.

Sunday, August 23: Gotham FC at Angel City FC

Hopefully, Gotham is earning their miles, for they will eventually head back out west to play Angel City FC. Right now, the team is in the final playoff spot. However, they recently lost one of their star players, Jun Endo, to an ACL tear. That might impact their attack, but since the match where she was injured, the team has won a game and lost one. Truthfully, it is difficult to know what type of team the Bats will face, for Angel City can be hit or miss. That should remain true regardless of who is healthy on the squad.

Friday, August 28: Gotham FC vs Portland Thorns FC

After facing Portland Thorns FC at the end of July, the NJ/NY side will end August with another clash with the Thorns. This time, thankfully, the Bats will be at home and playing on grass. And after the insane and crazy 2-2 draw, it is expected that the two teams will battle it out again, where either side could earn three points. Gotham FC is capable of success against the Thorns, and like the Current game, fans might want to attend this one as well.
