Alonso Martínez has a new contract with NYCFC and he deserves it

If there is one New York City FC player who has become a fan favorite over the last year, then Alonso Martínez is the answer. The Costa Rican, originally signed as a winger, moved into the striker position and has not looked back. He scored 16 goals in the regular season and already scored one this year in the draw against Inter Miami CF.

Therefore, NYCFC is rewarding Martínez and his success with a new contract. The club announced that they signed the player to a contract extension. This will keep him with the team through 2027, when the new stadium opens. In addition, there are options in 2028 and 2029.

Lee's statement hints that more players are on the way. Martínez signing a contract extension is just as exciting as signing new players. NYCFC made the right move to ensure the Costa Rican stays with the team beyond 2025.
